If you are new to writing for the internet, a good place to start is Squidoo.com.  Squidoo is a website that allows folks like you and me to write and publish articles that Squidoo calls “lenses.”  The difference between an article and a lens is you can go back to a lens after it is published and make changes to it.  You can edit the text, you can add pictures, you can change the pictures, etc.  It’s very easy and very flexible.

The great thing about Squidoo is that you can earn money writing articles about anything that interests you.  Do you like horses?  Cars?  Baking?  Gardening?  Write about what you like and earn money.  How fun is that?  Now, I must tell you there are a very few restrictions.  Squidoo is a family friendly site so no pornography or hate speech.  You weren’t going to include those things anyway.

So how do you earn money on Squidoo?  There are four ways:

Ad Revenue:  Squidoo advertises on its pages.  Squidoo shares those advertising revenues with its content writers, that’s you.  If you create an interesting lens that a lot of people read, you’ll get a bigger share of the

revenues.  If you create a lot of interesting lenses, you’ll get an even bigger share.  What could be more fair than that?

Merchant Modules:  Suppose you like old movies.  Create a lens about old movies.  Add pictures to make it look good.  Make it interesting.  Make the movies sound good so other people might want to watch them.  Then you can add a merchant module from Amazon.com and recommend some of your favorite old movies.  If someone buys one of those movies from Amazon, Amazon pays you a commission.  And Amazon sells almost everything, books, movies, clothes, computers, toys, dishes, etc.  They surely have something you can write about and recommend.

Sell your own stuff:  If you have a business selling purses or t-shirts or cookbooks or whatever, create a lens and sell it.  There are folks on Squidoo selling jewelry, crafts, all kinds of things.

Affiliate marketing:  This is where you can really make some big bucks.  Affiliate marketing services like Share a Sale and Commision Junction have a pool of business clients with items they want to promote. You, as an affiliate marketer, sign up to promote whatever products you like. If a reader buys something through a  link on your lens, you earn a commission!
